  • Liam Young (Australia) - Planet City and the Return of Global Wilderness

Obra < Back Liam Young (Australia) - Planet City and the Return of Global Wilderness Obra Liam Young is a designer, director and BAFTA nominated producer who operates in the spaces between design, fiction and futures. Described by the BBC as ‘the man designing our futures’, his visionary films and speculative worlds are both extraordinary images of tomorrow and urgent examinations of the environmental questions facing us today. As a worldbuilder he visualizes the cities, spaces and props of our imaginary futures for the film and television industry and with his own films he has premiered with platforms ranging from Channel 4, Apple+, SxSW, Tribeca, the New York Metropolitan Museum, The Royal Academy, Venice Biennale, the BBC and the Guardian. His films have been collected internationally by museums such as the New York Met, Art Institute of Chicago, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the National Gallery of Victoria and M Plus Hong Kong and has been acclaimed in both mainstream and design media including features with TED, Wired, New Scientist, Arte, Canal+, Time magazine and many more. Planet City and the Return of Global Wilderness Following centuries of colonisation, globalisation and never-ending economic extraction we have remade the world from the scale of the cell to the tectonic plate. In the storytelling performance ‘Planet City and the Return of Global Wilderness’ we go on a science fiction safari through an imaginary city for the entire population of the earth, where 10 billion people surrender the rest of the world to a global scaled wilderness and the return of stolen lands. Set against the consistent failure of nation states to act in any meaningful way against climate change, Planet City emerges from a global citizen consensus, a voluntary and multi-generational retreat from our vast network of cities and entangled supply chains into one hyper-dense metropolis. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rE_c0hmx9Fg Actividad especial con el apoyo de Fundación Telefónica Previous Next Para más información escribir a info@visionessonoras.org | For more information write to info@visionessonoras.org

Live conference on the 24.09.21 < Back Ir al final | go to botom Conversación entre Francis Dhomont y Joao Pedro Oliveira Live conference on the 24.09.21 Francis Dhomont Francis Dhomont studied under Ginette Waldmeier, Charles Koechlin and Nadia Boulanger. In the late 40s, in Paris (France), he intuitively discovered with magnetic wire what Pierre Schaeffer would later call “musique concrète” and consequently conducted solitary experiments with the musical possibilities of sound recording. Later, leaving behind instrumental writing, he dedicated himself exclusively to electroacoustic composition. An ardent proponent of acousmatics, his work (since 1963) is comprised exclusively of works for fixed media bearing witness to his continued interest in morphological interplay and ambiguities between sound and the images it may create. The Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec has awarded him a prestigious carreer grant. In 1999, he was awarded five first prizes for four of his recent works at international competition (Brazil, Spain, Italy, Hungary and Czech Republic). In 1997, as the winner of the Canada Council for the Arts’ Victor Martyn Lynch-Staunton Award, he was also supported by the DAAD for a residence in Berlin (Germany). Five-time winner at the Bourges International Electroacoustic Music Competition (France) — the Magisterium Prize in 1988 — and 2nd Prize at Prix Ars Electronica 1992 (Linz, Austria), he has received numerous other awards. He is the editor of special issues published by Musiques & Recherches (Belgium) and of Électroacoustique Québec: l’essor (Québec Electroacoustics: The Expansion) — for Circuit (Montréal). Musical coeditor of the Dictionnaire des arts médiatiques (published by UQAM), he is also lecturer and has produced many radio programs for Radio-Canada and Radio-France. In 1978-2004, he has divided his time between France and Québec, where he has taught at the Université de Montréal from 1980 to ’96. Since the fall of 2004 he lives in Avignon (France) and regularly presents his works in France and abroad. Great traveller, he participates in several juries. He is an Associate Composer of the Canadian Music Centre (CMC, 1989) and a Founding Member (1986) and Honorary Member (1989) of the Canadian Electroacoustic Community (CEC). In October 2007, Université de Montréal awarded him a honoris causa doctorate. He is the president of the collective Les Acousmonautes (Marseille, France) — until its dissolution in 2016 — and “Ehrenpatron” (honour patron) of the organization Klang Projekte Weimar (Germany). He is awarded the Qwartz Pierre-Schaeffer 2012 (Paris, France), Baiocco d’oro 2012 (Perugia, Italia), and the Grand prize of the Giga-Hertz-Preis 2013 (Karlsruhe, Germany). In November 2014 he becomes an Honorary Member of the International Confederation of Electroacoustic Music (ICEM). In 2017 he becomes the Honorary President of the Festival Klang! (Montpellier, France). He now focuses on composition and theory. João Pedro Oliveira Composer João Pedro Oliveira holds the Corwin Endowed Chair in Composition for the University of California at Santa Barbara. He studied organ performance, composition and architecture in Lisbon. He completed a PhD in Music at the University of New York at Stony Brook. His music includes opera, orchestral compositions, chamber music, electroacoustic music and experimental video. He has received over 50 international prizes and awards for his works, including three Prizes at Bourges Electroacoustic Music Competition, the prestigious Magisterium Prize and Giga-Hertz Special Award, 1st Prize in Metamorphoses competition, 1st Prize in Yamaha-Visiones Sonoras Competition, 1st Prize in Musica Nova competition. He taught at Aveiro University (Portugal) and Federal University of Minas Gerais (Brazil). His publications include several articles in journals and a book on 20th century music theory. www.jpoliveira.com Activity available on a specific day and time within Live Activities Full schedulle of live activities: https://en.cmmas.com/v17-airmeeet-landing ¿Tienes comentarios o preguntas al artista? participa en nuestro foro Do you have comments or questions to the artist? • Concierto: 23rd JEU DE TEMPS / TIMES PLAY, IN COLLABORATION WITH CMMAS [CANADÁ - LATINOAMÉRICA] | CMMAS+

Ir a cmmas.org < Regresar Concierto: 23rd JEU DE TEMPS / TIMES PLAY, IN COLLABORATION WITH CMMAS [CANADÁ - LATINOAMÉRICA] "Canada Véro Marengère Steven Webb Latin America Alejandro Brianza Juan Cáceres Avitia Guillermo Eisner Sagüés Oscar Andres Chaves Morales" 23 jun 2023 "-Steven webb -- iSAD v.1.0 (2021 /13:51) [Videomusic] iSAD or “Internet Separation Anxiety Disorder” is a term used online to describe the anxious feelings associated with being separated from the digital world for an extended period. During the pandemic, this digital separation manifested with real consequences, as any loss of signal led to a loss of communication with other humans entirely. Exploring online forums during the first Covid lockdowns of March-December 2020 led me to encounter other peoples' stories of their battles with loneliness, and highlighted to me the importance of digital spaces in contemporary social life. Intersecting with these spaces are AI Bots, which are becoming an increasingly frequent part of moderating online communities. I posed questions to the AI GPT-3, asking it about happiness, predictions for the future and how it felt to be separated from humans. Compiling these answers, I interspersed them with the sounds of 1990s Apple Macintosh computers and a poem by Victoria Liao. ¡Sad — a friend Or a closet face at home to mend and clothed to send to caustic space? Is ad a friend, or made to end? A cause to pace home to amend that sad’s a face, lost to a rend. I sat a friend at home to mend. —Victoria Liao -Oscar Andres Chaves Moreales -- The Garden on the other side of the fence (2021 /8:28) The Garden on the Other Side of the Fence is born of a listening score for an electroacoustic mixed work with tape, accordion and guacharaca, and meant to be played live. The graphic possibilities afforded by representing sound parameters as spectral visualization provide the tools to go further with some additional emotional understanding: colours, proportions and thresholds not only quantify but can express as well. This work seeks to articulate a bothersome situation in my life in the rainy Colombian countryside: to live next to a large flower-growing company that exports its harvest for sale to countries in the Northern Hemisphere during the winter. -Alejandro Brianza -- kowloon (2022 / 5:51) Located in Hong Kong and also known as “the city of darkness”, Kowloon was the most densely populated settlement in history. And although its inhabitants maintained an organization based on a harmonious state of anarchy, certain problems related to gangs, drugs and other illegalities led to Kowloon’s demolition in 1994. The memory of Kowloon today is a cyberpunk postcard, swinging between tranquility and chaos. -Juan Cácares Aviti -- Entendre la Sensation (2021 / 6:42) What matters here is the double meaning of the French verb “entendre”: to listen and to hear, but also, to understand. - Guillermo Eisner sangüés -- Esculturas temporales (2022 / 7:53) Esculturas temporales is arranged as a continuum of sound fragments that seeks to construct diverse ways of sculpting time, diverse gestures, diverse paths of accumulation and distension of energies. Composed exclusively from double bass samples, the work takes sound as a malleable material and proposes to sculpt on it as if we could grasp it, take it, feel it with our hands. In short, it is a vain attempt to make tangible an ephemeral material such as sound, of which we can only verify the temporal and spatial experience that its fleeting presence leaves us with. -Véro Marengère -- Hyra (2022 / 6:00) [Videomsic] Hydra is a 3D video artwork made with photogrammetry, scanning, 3D modeling and animation. The sounds are made exclusively from granular synthesis and voice synthesis via SuperCollider. The work evokes the quiet strength of plant beings. From being nearly totally paralyzed in a “natural” environment to being fully mobile and vibrant in an “artificial” environment, the plant no longer resembles a plant, but rather more an algae or mineral being. The work questions our tendency to oppose the natural of the unnatural. In this meditative and benevolent 3D alterworld, plants explore the ambiguity of their own identity." Previous Next

"Tinkling" by Michal Indrak 2. "Timebreak" by Jiri Suchanek 3. "Fluttering Substance" by Otto Wanke 4. "A Message" by Jan Kavan 5. "Dual 2" for alternative percussion and electronics by Omar Rojas; Percussions: Enrique Nieto 6. "La locandiera Mirandolina" a minisuite by Mario Buzzi Notas de programa: Michal Indrák - Tinkling This piece was written in July 2022 and was inspired by a small experimental musical instrument created by my 9-year-old son at a course for young composers and inventors. The instrument is made of a plastic bottle, short chain and small bells. All the sonic events of the piece were created by sampling and post-processing its possibilities as a kind of recollection stretched in time. The piece was also created as part of testing my new setup of a mobile DAW workflow. I also wanted to test and try out new workflows that would allow me to compose electroacoustic music anywhere and anytime without difficult preparations and technical limitations. Jiří Suchánek : Time.break (2013/2018, 4-channel, 9:17 ) Force applied to a mater causes the rise of internal tension. With increasing intensity and no possibility of relaxation, the situation culminates until the moment of internal integrity collapse. The structure of matter breaks down and with the release of sound energy the new fragments are created. A sound microscopic journey through a series of diverse destructions discovers new worlds emerging from the dust of old ones. The acoustic material used was mainly created during the destruction and disintegration of things, or when tensioning and compressing materials. The studio recordings were then carefully sorted, reassembled and supplemented with a synthetic sound layer. The composition Time.break is not an objective record of all kinds of destruction. It is a sonic representation of cycles of tension, climax, rupture and release. The original composition from 2013 was newly re-composed and mixed into a 4-channel version in 2018. Jan Kavan - A message Composed in July 2022 as a World-premiere for the international festival of contemporary music Visiones Sonoras 18 in Mexico. A Message is a stereo electroacoustic composition inspired by the poem The Waste Land by Thomas Stearns Eliot (1922) but transposed into a post-digital era where the topical wasteland is littered by digital fragments of the civilization. Fragments, polluted by noise and imperfection, analogically to the poem, depict loss of meanings, data, and habitable environment. While the composition reflects upon the current period of uncertainty, it also tries to look into the future with a tiny ray of hope that maybe somewhere in the omnipresent noise a new kind of harmony will be born. Poem fragments were narrated by Kateřina Prášková. Otto Wanke - Fluttering Substance My piece Fluttering Substance deals with short audio excerpts from interviews with the American writer William Burroughs, in which the author describes his Cut-up technique. The internal sonic qualities of the excerpts shape the individual electronic gestures and at the same time they form a tectonic organization that corresponds to the described Cut-up technique. In seeking parallels between the spectral properties of the excerpts and their effects on the formal construction of the piece, my intention was to further develop the technique of the spectral resynthesis. In its classical conception, individual partials of the sound model are assigned to different acoustic instruments, creating a characteristic ambiguity between harmony and timbre. In my conception, however, I used electronic processes such as granular synthesis or waveset distortion to resynthesize the original speech model. While this action results in the loss of the original plasticity of the resynthesis, it also serves as a starting point for the generation of new idiosyncratic material that reflects the original model on the basis of a more abstract spectral correspondence. Subsequently, I linked the resulting resynthesis to vertices (points in 3D space) to create an additional visual plane to these audio processes. Mario Buzzi - La locandiera Mirandolina - Minisuite The music for the production was created to mainly Dadaist texts, consisting of interjections, solmizing syllables and the like. The texts were created in collaboration with director Peter Gábor. Each of the main characters is typified by a certain selection of these syllables. A type of music was created, based on the Italian opera traditions and using its mannerisms; recitative technique, melody and rhythm. The singing parts were recorded by the singers of the NDB opera ensemble, and the musical arrangement was supplemented with parts of granular synthesizers, samplers and finally subjected to various transformations in the style of DJs (scratching, fx processing, etc.). The Minisuite is actually a selection from the scenic music for Mirandolina. • Concierto: INTRO [POLONIA] | CMMAS+

Ir a cmmas.org < Regresar Concierto: INTRO [POLONIA] Wojtek Pilichowsky (Polonia) 28 may 2015 El bajista Wojtek Pilichowski estará en el CMMAS presentando su más reciente material discográfico “Intro”. INTRO is the latest solo album from Wojtek Pilichowski, a world renowned bass player from Poland. The new album is absolutely phenomenal and clearly marks a new direction in fusion music. Nobody has managed to combine jazz elements and electro sounds so well before. The album stands on virtuoso instrumental performances, supplemented with singer voices that create an authentic, rich, dynamic material, that has been appreciated by thousands of listeners at dozens of concerts leading to production of the album. It was composed by Wojtek Pilichowski and Tomasz Swierk, and produced by Tim McDowell and New York Chartside Studio. Up to date Wojtek has released 12 solo albums with total circulation exceeding 100 thousand copies. He also played on more than 200 albums as a sideman. Wojtek Pilichowski – bass player, composer, arranger I work as a musician since 1992, when Jan Borysewicz discovered me. He was looking for a bassist for Jan Bo project and I was probably the 23rd in the row on the casting. Happily, I was given this chance, that was also a ticket to the professional world where every musician wants to be. We began rehearsing, recording, I met many legendary people such as Wojciech Morawski, who helped me a lot in learning how to create and develop solos. And of course Jan Borysewicz, who even today is a special person, my mentor. He was the first to give me hand. The rest was history, but today I know, how much responsibility he took on his back, how much extra work and time it costs to involve young musicians into the project. But the results are sometimes stunning – I see it every day! Wojtek Pilichowski has recorded his first solo album in 1994. So far he released 8 solo projects plus 4 live concerts, three of which were also published on DVD. Total circulation of his work exceeded 100 thousand copies. He is also a well know bass teacher, and published 4 educational videos. My first solo project, titled with my name “Wojtek Pilichowski” came out by end of 1994. Soon after there was Woobie Doobie album, where I played with Wojtek Olszak, Michał Grymuza, Michał Dąbrówka and Mariusz “Fazi” Mielczarek. And – all of the sudden – the prize for The Best Bassist. Thinking of it today, it was the most important recognition ever. By then I didn’t even realize it. As a sideman Wojtek recorded over 200 albums, most of them with the biggest names in the industry. Together he is present on many millions of CD, and took part in a few thousand gigs. I worked with many performers at the same time, for example when recording “Dotyk” (The Touch) with Edyta Górniak, we made an album “Czekając na...” (Waiting for...) with Kasia Kowalska, and the huge hit “Coś Optymistycznego” (Something Optimistic). My first concert album, Jazzga Live, I recorded with Woobie Doobie. It was quite a challenge, mostly from technical point of view. A tiny club in Łódź, Poland, lots of cables everywhere – no one knew if it’s going to work, but we’ve made it! From that moment I started thinking that sooner or later I am going to give up side playing and pursue my own projects. Soon I created a new team, with Wojtek Olszak, and a few new names: Radek Owczarz, Bartek Papierz and Kamil Barański. In the meantime I produced a completely different album, “No Bass No Fun”, with 16 young and unknown bass players from Poland. Today six of them are professional musicians with high profile bands. I am proud to have helped them – by the way, it is a shame not to help. Wojtek is also a renowned teacher and lecturer for bass guitar playing, holding the title of Art Director of Musical Fold Workshops in Poland. He teaches abroad a lot as well, conducting workshops at various festivals such as Bass Player Live in New York or Euro Bass Days in Verona. He was three times nominated to the main award of Polish Phonographic Academy. Seven times he was named The Best Polish Bass Player by the votes of “Guitar and Bass” magazine. Four times he received Play Box award from the Association of Polish Radio Stations. Nowadays he plays in the following bands: Pilichowski Band, Borysewicz – Kukiz, Jan Bo, Woobie-Doobie. Music is freedom. A cliche, I know, but for me it is literal. After so many years I can openly say, that a musician gets to know himself only when he is left alone with his tune. So I play with just one goal in my head – to keep looking. I have a new album coming. It won’t involve jazz, not because it’s easy. Contrary, it is actually very hard to step off the beaten path – both in music and in life. You have to keep looking, so I do, too. Previous Next
